(98 Cavy's bro)

Ok I am a minor (17 yrs. old) I've had my lisence since
1-04-99. My record is 2 speeding (48 in 25 school zone)
(55 in 40mph), failure to yield warning, Driving without
required lights (let me off easy I ran from cops from street
races 2 weeks after getting my lisence), all of these
tickets happened within my first year of driving. I was
given 2 chances to go to driving school for both speeding
tickets, so both speeding tickets were dismissed on
completion of driving improvement classes. My only point
on my record is the no headlights at night ( 1 point ).
I recently got a Speed Contest sometime around 2-7-01. I
am facing the same judge who let me off with driving school
last time. I am still a minor. What is the likely punishment
for this? I was told it's possible for the court to suspend
it until my 21st b-day or 18th b-day. But when you go to
juvenile court you get a form you sign that states the
maximum punishments in juvenile court which are like
up to $750 fines (i think), 1-6 month suspension of lisence,
community service hours, probation, ect but none of them
says they can take it till 18th or 21st b-day. I was also
told that since my 18th b-day is so close (9 months) it's
likely they'll take it until 21 given my record. I'm
guessing between 6mo suspension and 18th bday, ur opinion?
My court date is March 15th so I'm trying to get as much
info as possible. I was also told since speed contest is
a misdemeanor crime that I get a public defender and have
to go to actual court but that since my parents are liable
for me that they might force us to pay for a real attorney
(they will assume that my parents can afford it). Should I
bother with a lawyer? would it make a difference? Sorry
this is so long thanks for your help.

Okay, you don't realize how hard it is to resist telling you that you are a menace on the road. However, since you've asked such a good series of questions, I'll hold off from saying that.

Courts play by a different rulebook that police do. Judges and DA's (prosecutors) have all sorts of ways to make life easier on somebody or really hard on somebody who comes before them. When you're dealing with juvenile law, all common sense gets thrown out the window. So, I have no idea what the heck will happen with your case.

If I had to guess, they're going to stick you with the maximum penalty, however, since you're a juvenile, the whole thing is up in the air.

Please keep me updated either here or on raceoptions@hotmail.com if you don't want the info to be public.

Drive safe - please!

heh believe it or not I am a safe driver, within that year
I've driven well over a hundred thousand miles in my commute
and on freeways and such im cruise control 2-3mph over as
much as possible all of my tickets were racing, my first
was me and a friend left school and raced down a street
through a speed trap we denied racing they let us off with
speeding, driving without headlights i was at north first
street when you guys had a HUGE bust (15+ cop cars?) we all
hid in the guys farm (maybe 20 of us?) and I left to go find
the way out and flew by a cop with my lights off, he chased
me, i ran him away from the way out so others could get out,
eventually i stopped to avoid letting the situation get
REALLY really dangerous like high spd chase maybe you were
there when this happened? you guys wrote over like 200
tickets and started letting all of us go anyways cuz u had
no more tickets left, the guy said i could have gotten a
ticket for: trespassing, aiding and abedding, evasion of
police, resisting arrest, speeding, driving wth headlights
off, voilating provisional lisence agreement ( out past 12),
wreckless driving, exhibition of speed, i cant remember what
else. thats like 4 misdemeanors right there though so I got
soooo lucky. i don't know why im sayin this it dont matter
and im sure u dun care just ranting about stuff.

anyways for my question can they take my lisence until im
21? I was also told that the juvenile court cannot decide
what happens to you after you are legally an adult ie cant
take it till more than 18th bday... and also is what i did
bad enough to take it that long?

also I NEED my lisence to get back and forth from work
(66 miles away) and school (7 miles away) will i be allowed
to drive to these?

also IF they take it until I'm 21 can i go to a judge after
I'm 18 and show him i need it to move and go to college ect
and apply to get it back/ is it likely that that could
happen?

So what you're saying is that you drove 273 miles per day, every day last year?

Officers give tickets and rarely, if ever, hear what the sentence is. I have no idea what the sentencing or suspension guidelines are. I suppose you could try calling the public defender's office, the DMV (good luck), or District Attorney's office to ask them what the scoop is. However, my guess is that your answer would be something like this:

"Well, the maximum you could get is _______ , but the judge decides what the sentence is, so you'll have to wait to see what he/she says."

Drive safe,

hey 17 year old. If your that worried about losing your license maybe you should stop racing. I know it sounds hard but everytime u speed think about, you might lose your license for doing so. Most people that are around your age think they invincible and will never crash, just be careful. I'm 19 myself, I've never crashed or anything but the tickets have slowed my driving down.

No more racing for me till I get my lisence back and am
over 18. If yer 18 it's better cuz you pay a fine, a hella
big one but you don't lose your lisence. Shit I'll spend
a night in jail to get my lisence back. I'm still gonna
watch da races but I'm only gonna be one of the annoying
spectators who never race and only take up space when your
running from the cops on yer way out of a run when they
bust it. I might be out tonight laterz
